Internet Blackjack Casino Game
Some people believe that Blackjack originated
in French casinos in the early 1700s where it was known as "vingt-et-un"
("20 and 1") Gambling was legal out West from the 1850's to 1910, at which time
Nevada made it a felony to operate a gambling game. Since then, about 20 states have had a number of
small time casinos sprout up in places such as Black Hawk and Cripple Creek,
Colorado and in river boats on the Mississippi. Players place their bets prior to the cards being dealt. Each card
in Blackjack has a certain value. If the
dealer's hand is between 17 and 21, he or she may not draw any additional card.
If the dealer's hand is 16 or below, cards must be drawn until the dealer's hand
has a value of 17 or higher. If
your first two cards total 21, you have Blackjack and win 3:2 odds on your bet
automatically unless the dealer draws Blackjack as well causing a tie or a
"Push." In the case of a tie, no money is won or lost. An Ace can
count as either 1 or 11. The
10, Jack, Queen, and King are all valued at 10. Stand
- you stand if you don't want any more cards. Double - if you think you will win without getting more than one card you
double. You have to add an amount equal to your original wager and receive only one
card. Surrender - this decision is quite rare and not offered is most casinos. After you see your starting hand and the dealers up card and you don't think you can win, you have to give your cards back to the dealer
immediately. If you surrender you will only lose half of your original bet.
