Casinos Play Blackjack
The origin
of Blackjack is somewhat unclear. With a Jack being a vital card and Spades being black, the
game was called Blackjack. In 1931, Nevada re-legalized
casino gambling where BlackJack became one of the primary games of chance
offered to gamblers. As of 1989, only two states
had legalized casino gambling. Since then, about 20 states have had a number of
small time casinos sprout up in places such as Black Hawk and Cripple Creek,
Colorado and in river boats on the Mississippi. Roughly 70 Native American
Indian reservations operate or are building casinos as well. Once all bets are down the dealer will deal two cards, one
at a time, from left to right until both the players and dealer has two cards.
In a shoe game the cards are dealt face up and you shouldn't touch the cards. The object of
the game is to obtain a hand of cards totaling up to 21 or as close to 21 as
possible without going over. Going over 21 is called "Busting." You
are playing only against the dealer. Once all players have decided to "Stand," the
dealer reveals the face down card known as the "Hole" card. If
your first two cards total 21, you have Blackjack and win 3:2 odds on your bet
automatically unless the dealer draws Blackjack as well causing a tie or a
"Push." In the case of a tie, no money is won or lost. If the dealer "Busts" or
has a hand that exceeds 21 and your hand is less than 21, you win!
