Casino Gambling Blackjack Card
Some people believe that Blackjack originated
in French casinos in the early 1700s where it was known as "vingt-et-un"
("20 and 1") Gambling was legal out West from the 1850's to 1910, at which time
Nevada made it a felony to operate a gambling game. As some of you may recall, 1978 was the year casino
gambling was legalized in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The blackjack table
seats 1 to 7 players and each player has a betting square printed in front of
them on the felt and each table will have a minimum bet which you should check
before sitting down. Going over 21 is called "Busting." You
are playing only against the dealer. Players place their bets prior to the cards being dealt. Starting to the
dealer's left side, the cards are dealt in a round one at a time to each player
ending with the dealer receiving his second card face down. Depending on the
game, the player's are either dealt their cards face up or face down. If
your first two cards total 21, you have Blackjack and win 3:2 odds on your bet
automatically unless the dealer draws Blackjack as well causing a tie or a
"Push." In the case of a tie, no money is won or lost. The
10, Jack, Queen, and King are all valued at 10. Hit - if you are not satisfied with your current total you can ask the dealer to hit you which means he deals you another card in addition to your
two. You are hit until you are satisfied with your total, or until you bust. Surrender - this decision is quite rare and not offered is most casinos. After you see your starting hand and the dealers up card and you don't think you can win, you have to give your cards back to the dealer
immediately. If you surrender you will only lose half of your original bet.
