The game became known as Blackjack because if a player held a Jack of Spades and an Ace of Spades as the 1st two cards, the player was paid out extra. With a Jack being a vital card and Spades being black, the game was called Blackjack. The object of the game is to obtain a hand of cards totaling up to 21 or as close to 21 as possible without going over. Players place their bets prior to the cards being dealt. Starting to the dealer's left side, the cards are dealt in a round one at a time to each player ending with the dealer receiving his second card face down. Card between 2 and 10 simply have their face value regardless of suit. Jacks, Queens and Kings always have a value of 10. Once all players have decided to "Stand," the dealer reveals the face down card known as the "Hole" card. If your first two cards total 21, you have Blackjack and win 3:2 odds on your bet automatically unless the dealer draws Blackjack as well causing a tie or a "Push." In the case of a tie, no money is won or lost. The cards from 2 through 9 are valued as indicated. Stand - you stand if you don't want any more cards. Insurance - is offered to the players if the dealer's up card is an Ace, to protect against a dealers Black Jack.
